About Odyssey Community

From its conception in February 2007, Dr. John Johnson and the founding members of Odyssey Community School set out to create a new vision for learning in Asheville.    With a community core centered on a shared commitment to lifelong learning and self-knowledge, Odyssey has manifested a 21st century educational model involving a multi-age, continuous progress class structure and the integral philosophy to create learning opportunities for all ages.  The reframing of skill sets needed in the world now and in the future integrating literacy in traditional academics, technology and self-knowing creates a framework for a new century and a unique offering in Asheville, North Carolina.
Now entering its 3rd year, Odyssey has enrolled 85 students for the 2009 / 2010 academic year.  Through a caring, dedicated and professionally trained staff, strong community support and a strategically located, amenity-rich campus, enrollment has grown more than 70% from its initial level in the fall of 2007.   Summer camps, pool and tennis memberships and adult program offerings add to the interaction and utilization of our community and its facilities.
Over the next 4 years, enrollment is to grow to 149 students, while keeping our low 10-1 student/teacher ratios at an optimal level for learning.
